Have a Vibrant Summer at The Vista

Christian Health’s premier continuing care retirement community, The Vista, offers a wide range of amenities for its residents, boasting a versatile and extensive schedule of classes, programs, and activities for every season.

However, summer at the CCRC really shines. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and lush, the colorful flowers are in bloom, and the summer sun setting over the Ramapo Mountains offers residents breathtaking views. Summertime activities are certainly another highlight of everyone’s favorite season, and The Vista has no shortage of fun things to do in the sun!

Gardening

There’s nothing like growing your own fresh summer vegetables! The Vista features five raised garden beds for shared resident use – two on the patio outside the nature conservatory with a breathtaking view of The Vista and three on the main patio. Residents plant various flowers, veggies, and herbs in the community beds and enjoy getting their hands dirty tending to and watering their blooms. The Vista also holds horticulture classes for residents who need a little help with their green thumbs.

Summer BBQs and Outdoor Concerts

One of the best parts of summer is enjoying a festive BBQ with great friends, great food, and great weather! The Vista’s summer calendar features many fun social events on its relaxing patio, such as BBQs where you can mingle with your friends (and make news ones!), and outdoor concerts, such as a festive Dixieland show for Fourth of July and 50s Summer Bash featuring favorite tunes of the decade.

Nature Presentations

The Vista teams up with Lorrimer Sanctuary in Franklin Lakes to give residents informative nature presentations to learn about various plant life and wildlife. Residents can then take a guided nature walk through The Vista’s beautiful, scenic grounds with a knowledgeable guide to recognize firsthand all the various types of flora and fauna thriving at The Vista.

Scenic Day Trips

The fun doesn’t stop at The Vista – residents also enjoy scheduled day trips to a variety of locations throughout the year. In the summer, they can look forward to visiting local parks and botanical gardens, where they can enjoy the beautiful plants, wildlife, and sunshine.

Al Fresco Dining

There’s nothing like a delicious meal outdoors on a beautiful summer night. At The Waterstone, The Vista’s upscale fine-dining restaurant, residents and their guests can dine on the lovely open-air terrace and indulge on chef-inspired cuisine, such as a fresh catch of the day, while enjoying the sunset and gentle breeze.

Walking Group

The Vista offers plenty of ways to get exercise, but Walking Group is certainly a favorite of residents who love to get some fresh air and take in the lovely views The Vista offers. The group meets in the Vista lobby three mornings a week to take a 20-minute stroll around The Vista’s scenic grounds. And if the weather doesn’t cooperate, residents still get their exercise with a brisk walk through the hallways.

Group Swimming and Aqua-cize

What’s summer without a relaxing dip in the pool? At The Vista, you can take a swim rain or shine – the beautiful Reach Aquatics Center features a heated indoor pool for swimming no matter the weather. Enjoy a solo swim, join an organized group swim, or sign up for Aqua-cize, a gentle, body-weight-supported strength and conditioning class. Residents who would like to catch some rays before or after their swim can do so on the relaxing patio just outside the pool.

Live Virtual Travel

At The Vista, residents can go on an exciting summer vacation without ever leaving their seats! The community regularly hosts virtual travel events at the Performing Arts Center. The interactive travel experience features a tour guide live at various different locations around the world, who communicates with the audience via a television screen and on-site host. Residents can see famous landmarks and tourists on a large screen and interact with the host to ask questions and learn all about many exotic places.
