Indulge Your Wanderlust Without Worry

Many older adults enjoy traveling, especially with the freedom that comes with retirement. Whether you’re heading south every winter or a jet setter who travels the world, at a continuing care retirement community such as The Vista, you can leave behind the stress of worrying about who will look after your home while you’re gone.

How The Vista Helps You Feel at Ease

After Jeanne Kelly’s husband passed away, she decided to move to The Vista, where her cousin Jo-Ann, also a widow, had signed up to move in before the community had even opened.

“I really felt it was good socially for me,” she said.

After moving to The Vista, Jeanne and Jo-Ann began to travel together often, including places like Japan and the Canyonlands. Jeanne also takes each one of her ten grandchildren on a trip for their high school graduation. She has completed seven trips so far: Liverpool, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Vienna, Rome, and Florence.

“It’s become addictive,” she said. “I always want to know where my next trip is.”

Whether she’s going on an exotic international trip or spending a weekend at her shore house, Jeanne rests easy knowing her home is secure, her packages are safe at the front desk, and her apartment is cleaned regularly in her absence.  “I can just lock my door, and everything is taken care of,” she said.

Lyn Lobosco moved to The Vista after spending 40 years living in Franklin Lakes. After her husband passed away, she decided The Vista was right for her because she “didn’t want to have to worry about anything.”

Aside from enjoying the vibrant, active lifestyle offered at The Vista (“I don’t like to sit still,” she said), Lyn travels multiple times a year. She heads to Florida every winter and frequently visits her adult children in Austin and Chicago and sisters in California. She feels that The Vista is the perfect home for someone who loves to get up and go, without having to worry about things like leaks from heavy rain or snow piling up while she’s at her home in Florida all winter. “While I’m able to do this kind of traveling, The Vista is just a wonderful place to be,” she said.

Lyn recommends The Vista to anyone looking for a close-knit community as a home base for their adventurous lifestyle.

“It works beautifully for me,” she said. “It’s like living at a five-star hotel where you can come and go as you like.”

Friends to Share Adventures With

After retiring, you might want to travel more but lack companions to share your experiences with. The Vista fosters a close-knit community where residents make meaningful friendships with like-minded individuals who share similar interests, such as traveling.

Jeanne and Lyn even formed a group with two other women at The Vista – the Vista Voyagers – who enjoy traveling together. They began planning local road trips – such as to Newport, Rhode Island – but plan to try some further excursions soon.

“My motto is: buy the shoes, eat the cake, take the trip,” Jeanne said. “As long as I can, I’m going to do it.”
